Healthy Amount of Sleep for Your Baby

The importance of getting quality and adequate amount of sleep can never be stressed enough, most especially for babies. If your baby is not getting enough sleep, it will be hard for him to get through the day and to settle at night. Indeed, sleeping habits are formed right from the moment your child is born, and it is your duty to make sure that he gets all the rest he needs.

For this, it is crucial for you to know that newborns from zero to six months typically require about 16 hours of sleep every day. Note, however, that it is normal for infants to wake up in the middle of the night to eat, for at this stage their bodies are still not used to the time cycle.

Babies from six months to one year meanwhile, need about 14 hours of sleep. At this age, your baby may already learn about bedtime. Put your baby to sleep at the same time each night and he will later get the idea that it is time for him to go to sleep. Children from one to three years on the other hand, need about ten hours of sleep daily. These toddlers will naturally resist bedtime, and it is important for you to keep a routine and insist on a regular sleeping time. Of course, other than the night sleeps, babies also need to take their morning and afternoon naps so they can grow healthy and strong.

Lastly, as your child spends most of his time asleep, it is crucial for you to provide him with the most comfortable and soothing crib he can have.
